- Qualitative, analytical, semi-analytical and numerical methods used to solve a variety of theoretical models.
- The transfer-matrix method for the calculation of the transmission spectrum and field distribution in a heterogeneous medium. The extension to the case of a strongly nonlinear media, taking into account bistability by predictor-corrector algorithm, an analytical solution for the nonlinear film [Chen W., Mills D.L., PRL, 58, 1987]. The extension to the case of anisotropic media - Berreman and extended Jones methods.
- The temporal and spatial coupled-mode theory (CMT). The extension to the multidimensional case - the Pendry method, scattering matrix method. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA). Finite difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Finite element method (FEM).
- Photonic crystal dispersion equations. The band structure of a two-dimensional photonic crystal - plane wave expansion method, its modification to account for resonant media [Belikov A.V., Bogdanovа M.V., Lozovik Yu.E. Mathematical modeling. 19, 19, 2007].
